Dr. Jan P. Seiter
I am an Assistant Professor of Education in the Curriculum & Instruction Department of Texas A&M University-Central Texas. I teach undergraduate and graduate courses in pedagogy, research and instructional methodology.
I received my Bachelor of Arts from Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. I majored in Speech Communication and Radio & TV production. I was an award-winning public speaker and a member of the MSU Forensics & Debate Team. I am a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, Theta Tau Chapter. In my junior year, I received a two-year Army ROTC scholarship and joined the ROTC detachment at MSU. As a cadet, I was awarded the George C. Marshall National Leadership Award and served as the detachment cadet commander during my senior year.
I entered the Regular Army as a lieutenant and served for fourteen years in armor and cavalry units, rising to the rank of major. In the Army, I earned two Meritorious Service Medals, the Army Commendation Medal three times and Army Achievement Medal, as well as the Parachutists’ Badge and the coveted Army Ranger Tab.
My secondary specialty of Public Affairs Officer often found me working with local and national media organizations. While teaching ROTC at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, I received my Masters’ of Science in Broadcast Communications from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. During Operation Desert Shield/ Storm, I worked with local and national media organizations throughout Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois.
I began teaching public school in Houston, Texas following the downsizing of the military in 1992. I have taught English literature, writing and grammar, speech communication, debate, media literacy and theater arts in grades 6-12. I have designed professional development courses for teachers in media literacy, curriculum, instructional techniques and computer integration techniques. I have presented programs for early childhood, middle school and high school organizations in curriculum design and multimedia use in the classroom.
I received my Doctor of Education (Ed. D.) from the University of Houston in Curriculum and Instruction. My emphasis areas included teacher training and technology integration in the classroom. I have been an adjunct professor for the University of St. Thomas in Houston responsible for training new teachers, and held a similar position for Concordia University’s College of Education in Austin, Texas.
I am certified as an administrator, teacher evaluator and principal in Texas.
